That is where ParticleX\ncomes in: a tech-based start-up\ninvestor and innovation enabler.\n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ParticleX focuses on start-ups that\nemploy AI, blockchain, data analytics,\nrobotics and IoT to address a particular\nindustry problem, and also in finding\nsolutions to ESG issues. Since late\n2017, it has invested in 39 start-ups.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCombining network, capital and\nresearch resources, we accelerate\nthe pace of innovative technology\nand help early-stage startups to win\ncross-border opportunities,\u201d said the\ncompany\u2019s CXO Mingles Tsoi.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Start-ups often begin with an impressive product or service, and may even have a decent business plan, but ultimately fail because they underestimate the issue of cash flow. Tsoi explained that ParticleX focuses on start-ups that have sustainable business models and a unique value proposition as well as a realistic go-to- market plan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur investment decisions are made\nwith consideration of those who are\nable to prove a strong commitment\nand vision as technopreneurship,<br>\nthat are excelling in technological\ndevelopment and with a clear vision of\ntheir industry\u2019s future landscape,\u201d Tsoi\nsaid.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ParticleX\u2019s team have backgrounds in a broad range of disciplines including investment, business development, serial entrepreneur, as well as tech- savvy scientists and researchers. This enables the company to conduct a thorough and systemic screening process to identify the strengths and weaknesses of start-ups they are interested in working with. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tsoi believes that start-ups and big\ncorporates can work together for\nmutual benefit. Start-ups can create\nsolutions that drive efficiency at larger\ncompanies, and also find innovative\nways to raise the quality of services at\nbig businesses to improve customer\nengagement.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith a multidisciplinary matching approach, we aim to bridge the gap between start-ups and corporates, as well as angel investors and government incubators,\u201d said Tsoi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joining the Chamber has given ParticleX more opportunities in this area, by expanding the company\u2019s network of contacts from a wide variety of backgrounds. And it also gives them a say in the evolution of the high-tech landscape in Hong Kong. \u201cBy becoming a member, we also hope to be in a better position to ensure policymakers take our interests into account,\u201d said Tsoi. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides investing in promising start-ups, the company also has a broader mission to encourage innovation. Since 2020, ParticleX PropTech Global Challenge aims to connect global start-ups with innovative solutions to the real-world challenges in the property sector, and integrating the ESG issues in the operation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking ahead, Tsoi is pursuing some\nareas that might emerge from changing\nconsumer behaviour brought about by\nthe pandemic. Start-ups specialising in\nprice comparison may come to the fore,\nhe said, as consumers are becoming\nmore price-sensitive due to the economic\nuncertainties while also doing more\nonline shopping.
